Kindle Fire vs. iPad2

Kindle Touch, Kindle Fire, iPad 2

At first I really didn't care much for ebook readers or tablet computers.  I really didn't think there was a need for it.  Whenever I needed to read an ebook, I just used my laptop.  But now that I have my hands on a Kindle Fire - thanks to somebody great who gave me one as an early Christmas gift - I can see why many regarded this as the missing link.  Reading ebooks in an electronic publication format (EPUB, MOBI, KF8, etc.) is just more interactive and fun compared to reading it in PDF format.  And the best part of these tablet computers are the games!  The screen is bigger than those in your iPod Touch or Smartphones, making them more enjoyable to play with.  And when you're using the Amazon App Store, you get a free app everyday!

Have an Attitude for Gratitude

I have this post it note on my desktop wallpaper.  It's from ThingsWeForget.Blogspot.Com.  It helps remind me everyday to be grateful for everything - from the small to the big stuff.  It really does help to have an attitude for gratitude.  For one, it's making me less irritable and the blessings just keep on coming.  Keeping the faith, here's another round for my Gratitude Wall.

Thanks you J.O. for inviting me to your home and FEEDING me!  Home-cooked Korean food with homemade chili sauce has never been this good!  Let's catch up again one of these days!  Congratulations to you and S!  Extend my gratitude to Gina and the rest of your wonderful home kitchen. ^^  Love N's kiss at the end. (^o-)v  She likes me after all.  Must have an eye for pogi hahaha (^o^)/

Thanks A.L. for introducing me to Tequilla with Lemon, Coffee, and Brown sugar.  Drinking Tequila will never be the same again.  Thanks to Egay of Fez for obliging  to our request.

A salute to the Buchi Gang + The Clan!  Cheers to our friendship!  See you around guys!

Ocean Minded Flip Flops

Ocean Minded DURBO Flip-flops
I thought I'd contribute a little to help the environment.

On a recent Surfing Yoga Samba trip with FLOW, I received a gift certificate entitling me to a pair of Ocean Minded Flip Flops.  I've never heard of this brand so I wasn't really that excited to claim it but as soon as I got my pair of Ocean Minded Durbo flip flops, I loved them!  Not only because they were so comfortable to wear but most especially because of the company's concern for saving the environment.

The pair I got is world champion surfer Bede Durbidge's signature sandal.  It is called the Durbo after his nickname.  The strap is made from PU Nubuck.  It features a nylon toe post made from recycled plastic bottles.  And the footbed and outsole are made from recycled Croslite material.  In short, it's made mostly out of recycled materials!

Bede Durbidge - www.BedeDurbidge.com

For every pair that you get, a portion of your purchase price is also donated to the Surfrider Foundation.  It is a non-profit grassroots organization that is dedicated to the protection of the world's oceans, beaches, and waves through conservation, activism, research and education.

Here's a simple message from Gary Ward, President and Founder of Ocean Minded:

BE OCEAN MINDED.
That simple idea is the basis for our company.  We make top quality sandals with unbeatable comfort, while utilizing natural and sustainable materials whenever possible.  We are based in San Clemente, California and out crew strives to protect the Earth's most precious resources, the oceans, lakes, and streams.  Ocean Minded encourages you to pick up 10 pieces of trash the next time you head out to your favorite place, whether it be the beach, lake, or mountains.  That place will then be much nicer for the next person who comes to use it.

So the next time you are looking for a pair of flip-flops, consider getting a pair of Ocean Minded sandals and help the environment in the process.  These are available in Rudy Project outlets.

Thank you to FLOW and Rudy Project for my pair of Ocean Minded flip-flops!

Salamat Bai!

Spent the weekend in Cebu City, the Queen City of the south!  I used to have problems saying that title about Cebu.  First of all, being a true-blooded Dabawenyo, I don't really consider Cebu City to be in the south.  For me, the only cities who can rightfully use that phrase are cities in Mindanao, like Davao.  And secondly,  I couldn't understand what makes it a queen city. (^o^)/

After working for 3 years in Cebu though, I can truly say that Cebu is indeed a Queen city.  There is beauty, gentleness, and elegance in the city that is rightfully its own and distinct from the more masculine appeal of other cities in the Philippines like Manila.  Add to that, the individuality and warmth of the Cebuanos.  You just have to go and visit the place to understand what I mean.

My gratitude goes to these people who made this short trip last like there was no tomorrow.

SALAMAT BAI!

1st Stop: UCC Cafe Terrace at The Ayala Terraces for unlimited cups of House Blend Coffee with Smoked Milk Fish Salad and Bacon Sausage Pizza Toast.  Thank you CSO! Next time I won't forget to try the city blend. ^^

2nd Stop: Asiatown IT Park! (Lahug, Cebu City) Lots of new developments in the place.  Was happy to see that KUL Kitchen and Mocha Blends (our usual hangouts before) are still in business.  Didn't appreciate the night bazaar that much though.  Thank you CT and DPC people for keeping me company.  Thank you PB, JA, JM, RA, RQ for wonderful Tea Lattes and Yummy desserts at Starbucks later in the night.

3rd Stop: Casino Español! (Ramos St., Cebu City)  Back-breaking and muscle-cramping match ups against the unrelenting Cebu team followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner at La Terraza.  As long as that Chuleton Asado is on the menu, you can take me to dinner anytime! ;-) (^o^)v

4th Stop: Tinder Box! (Banilad, Cebu City)  Fine wine over gourmet Tapas.  Got acquainted with Manchego cheese, Portabello mushrooms, and an all-nighter of boisterous laughter and chatting!  The waitress had to beg one of our companions to finish his wine so she can finally close shop and go home.

5th Stop: Chika-an! (Lahug, Cebu).  Thank you DD.

6th Stop: BLU Bar and Grill at The Marco Polo Hotel!  Great view and ambiance to chill out and relax among friends.

7th Stop: CYMA Restaurant at The Ayala Terraces.  Chicken Souvlaki and Clam Pasta was the treat for the day.  And not to forget the ROKA SALATA!  It's so good, you won't have time to take a picture of it.  Don't forget to ask for extra salad dressing ... hmmmm ....  Thank you CC and DCH!

8th Stop: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at The Ayala Terraces.  Never mind the Toblerone Cheesecake which didn't taste anything like Toblerone.  I still love a good cup of iced latte.

If all weekends were like this, I'd spend a lifetime of weekends in Cebu!  (Except maybe for the part where my roommates wake me up as early as 7 in the morning. hehehe ^^)

SALAMAT mga BAI!

Dankeschön

"Dankeschön" is how you say "Thank you" in German.  Ich Danke Ihnen (I thank you), the people on this list for making life more colorful!

Thank you Sally for taking care of my sister and I every time I'm in Manila.  Great home cooking as always!  If you guys are wondering what the Calamansi are for - It's this new health regimen that's suppose to make your body alkaline therefore killing germs and bacteria that can make you sick!  Not to mention the vitamins you get from drinking the juice.  Just take the juice (with as much pulp as possible) of around 20 Calamansi first thing in the morning and then try not to drink or eat anything for the next hour.  Don't mix it with anything, even water, as that will make it acidic!  Credit also goes to a few friends and Bo Sanchez for introducing this regimen.

Thank you Travel Factor for providing me the opportunity to go to Donsol, Sorsogon on a budget even on my own.  Service can still be improved but overall I'm very grateful.  And thank you to great company (Patrick, Flora, CJ, Tiff, Char, Brenda, CB, Mina, Iko, Frances, and Dan) for the fun and interesting conversations and parties (which I mostly missed ;-)).

Thank you to our boat captain and the vice-chairman of that place in Donsol for the warm welcome and the free FRESH BUKO while waiting for the fireflies to do their thing.  Thank you Tissiana, Paula, and Leo for making that boat ride a bit more interesting that it normally would be.  Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your Dive trips here in the Philippines.  And in general, thank you to the people of Donsol for the welcoming SMILES from morning 'til night.

Delightful Delights!

That title sounds like it came from my friend Bok's site "Memory Keeper: Soul Deelight."  Well, these delights that I'm about to share with you are truly delightful and if you get the chance to try them then it's really worth your time, money, and the calories.  If you are into trying anything at least once, these should be on your list!

Durian Flavored Lenguas de Gato

It's so thin it'll make you wonder how the chef made it!  Light and crispy with just the right amount of Durian goodness.  Made by my friend's friend Wency Cornejo (yes, the same guy who sang "Next in Line").  Available in Cafe Demitasse (Davao City).  Around 160 pesos per tub.  Thank you MP!

Strawberry Frozen Brazo

5 Layes of cake goodness! Enjoy the combination of meringue, white chocolate mousse, dark chocolate mousse, strawberry ice cream, and chocolate cake!  The colors and flavors made me reminisce another childhood favorite, the Banana Split!  Available at Alor's a Home Kitchen (Davao City).  Around 80 pesos per slice.  Thank you Diana D-C!

Haagen Dazs Chocolate Fondue

Balls of Haagen Dazs ice cream, brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, and fruits served with melted chocolate!  Playful and mouth-watering.  Haagen Dazs @ Esplanade Mall, Singapore.  Around 42 Singapore dollars (~1300 pesos).  Thank you Neil M., Dee C-C., Rachel F., and Kay L.!

My heartfelt gratitude to all you good Samaritans!
