In the news: $60,000 found in Garbage dump site

November 28,2008
Cebu City

A 16-year-old boy who makes ends meet by searching for treasures in other people's trash found a sack containing $60,000 USD! And the good thing about it is, after confirming that the bills were not fake, the boy knew how to share some of it to his fellow scavengers and even distributed rice to them.

$60,000 USD is around 3 Million pesos! It will truly be a MERRY Christmas for that lucky boy. (^^;)

Let's hope that it stays that way. An owner of a money-changing business has surfaced and is claiming ownership of the sack. Nobody can really be sure who owns it and for the boy to find it in the garbage means that it was probably discarded by the owners already.

Investing 101: Pay Yourself First

Pay Yourself First

Most people would pay everyone else before paying themselves.  At the end of the month, they hope that some money will be left over to put towards savings and investments.  However, this rarely happens.  Paying yourself first means putting a percentage of your paycheck into savings or investments the moment you receive it and before you start paying bills, going grocery shopping, filling your gas tank, etc.  If you do this, you will never go a month without saving money!  At the end of the month, you will probably spend all your money, but the savings will already be safe in the bank.

Investing 101: Time Value of Money

This series will present fundamental principles everyone, especially the young, should know when it comes to personal finance.
The Time Value of Money

Money received and invested today is not the same value as that of money, with the same face value, received in the future.

Most would think that a hundred pesos received today is the same as that of a hundred pesos to be received next year.  This assumption is wrong simply because of all the ways you can make the money grow during  that gap.  Just by putting the 100 pesos you received today in a savings account, you'll at least earn interest on it, thereby increasing its future value.

Here's a simple formula to determine the future value of funds compounded annually given a specific interest rate:

FV = Future Value
PV = Present Value
i = interest rate
n = number of years

Example:
If I have 69,500 pesos and I allow it to compound for 31 years at an annual interest of 9% per annum, the future value of my money would be

FV = 69,500 (1+.09)^31
FV = 1,005,092 pesos! (A million pesos!)

My Home Garden

When I stayed in Japan, I realized that I love being outdoors, enjoying nature and enjoying the sun. I miss going driving by the mountains during autumn and enjoying the picnics with friends at parks. The hanami picnics will have to be the best. That's the time when Japan's national flower, the sakura, blossoms for just a couple of weeks at the start of spring.

If I were to build my dream house, it would definitely have a majestic garden. It's an extra expense I know, but nothing really beats waking up to the serene view it offers and walking around it to enjoy the cool and fresh air. My garden would be Zen inspired. It will have Japanese looking tress, maybe even bonsai trees, a small wooden bridge (or a pathway made out of wooden planks will do), and maybe a meditation garden as well, just like the one shown in the picture above. (The picture by the way, is that of Ryouanji, the meditation rock garden in Kyoto.)

I'm also planning to build garden buildings in the middle of my Zen garden. The buildings' walls will be made out of glass so that one can enjoy the view of the garden from the inside. The place would be great for lazing around during weekends, reading books, enjoying dinner with family, or maybe even for throwing parties with family and friends. I'm thinking the experience would be exhilarating. It would be like enjoying dinner in an exclusive restaurant reserved for the night just for you and your family and friends. And best of all, nobody has to eat hurriedly and everyone can enjoy a nice conversation over sake, beer, wine, or water, whichever you prefer.

I remember one of my uncles saying that somehow food tastes better when being enjoyed outdoors, just like when you are at the beach with friends eating grilled food with your bare hands.

It so happens that here in Davao, we live in a subdivision that's not overcrowded and the air is still fresh because of all the trees surrounding us. It is very near downtown Davao but the place is still very peaceful and quiet. It looks like my dream house and garden is not that far from becoming a reality after all.

Waiting for God's Will

"Waiting for God's will" is how one guy in this chat room put it. I'm glad he isn't idly waiting by and expecting God to send his special someone gift-wrapped while he sulks and waits in his living room. It would be foolish to expect for that someone to come by if you are not doing anything to meet him/her.

If you're looking for a place to meet Christian Men and Women, check out the link. It's an active dating community that promises to have many people in your neighborhood. "Jesus, It's that Easy!" is how another member put it referring to how easy it ease to meet other people through this site.

Being quick and brief (Chat and Date site)

I'll be brief and quick about this. If you're interested in dating African-Americans, there's another site you can check out for possible dates or chat mates. This is a great site to meet Black Males and Females. With these chat sites, I just love some of the nicks that people give themselves. With this site alone, I found "magic hands" and "the royal". Not to mention someone describing himself as "tall, DARK, and handsome." How redundant is that? (^O^)/

Inter-Religion Marriages

Most Chinese parents would advice their sons and daughters to marry someone who's also Chinese. It's not really a discriminatory thing but their concern is really more of culture compatibility. They say that it would be easier to get along with someone who was brought up in a similar manner as you are. I think there is some truth to that.

In the same manner, Inter-religion or inter-faith marriages, I think would pose the same possible conflicts. Most religion actually restricts it. However, I've met a few friend couples who practice different faiths but have made their marriages work.

I guess, in the end, it all boils down to the individuals involved and to how much of a compromise they are willing to make for each other.

In the mean time, if you are looking for an online site to meet Jewish Men or Women, visit the link. It's the place to meet and chat with Jewish singles. Never mind the religious differences for now, as they say, love conquers all.

Nyahahaha!

Do you want to be a Millionaire?

Here's the quickest ways to be a millionaire on my list:

  • Inherit the money
  • Marry a multimillionaire
  • Win the lottery
I earned my first million the hard way, through sheer hard work and a little luck. Although it was a million before, I doubt if it's still worth the same today with the continuously rising inflation rate and sagging economy. That is why I've reverted to plan B, and that is, to marry a millionaire!

If your searching for Millionaire Singles, try out this site and you may just land a date with a millionaire. The site claims to have thousands of millionaire singles in their database.

Nobody knows though when love will strike. Between a million pesos and love, I will choose love anytime. Make that a million dollars and I am yours. hahaha ^^

Website Reviews

With the growth of the internet came the growth of deception as well. The internet is full of scammers and schemers. One really has to be careful before going over any online transaction.

This is where a new site offering User Website Reviews come in handy. If you're not sure of the credibility of the site you plan on doing transactions with, visit this site first. Read what other users has to say about the site. Of course, there is always the possibility that the reviews on the site are made up by the perpetrator himself. Therefore, use the site with caution and don't let it be your only criterion.

On a lighter note, you may just want to check their list of Top Websites or see if your blog got any reviews. (^o^)/

Before and After: My Bedroom

The bedroom is my sanctuary. I spend most of my time in my bedroom. I like to keep it clean and clutter free but I'm just really messy. I have a tendency to keep things which I just end up throwing in the long run (junk, for short). I remember bringing a whole box of junk from Japan after my 1st year of training. My sister and mom can testify to this. I know cause I think they were a bit disappointed to see that the big box only contained my books and a lot of junk. No pasalubong (gifts) for them in there. hehehe (^o^)/

The pictures above are the BEFORE pictures of my room. Those were taken around August of 2007, a month after my return. The pictures below are the AFTER pictures taken today. How do you like it?

After one year, I'm getting bored with the layout already. But the space is quite small and I really can't move things around freely because of the size and the placement of the electrical sockets. I like remodeling my room. Somehow the new layout and atmosphere also renews my spirit. It's a great stress reliever. I'm planning to buy a sturdier metal rack soon. I hope inspiration will come so I can remodel my room again. In the mean time, I found this site with great bathroom remodeling ideas. Makes me wanna change some features in my bathroom as well. Harajuku Girls

Harajuku girls, you got the wicked style
I like the way that you are
I am your biggest fan, oh

Those are the words of Gwen Stefani from her single Harajuku Girls. Aren't they lovely? Their style I would say is a cross between cosplay and goth. I'd like to have one as a friend. I think that would really be interesting. And we don't really have to talk, we can just hang out the whole day and it would still mean the world to us.

If you love the Goth subculture, check out the link. It's a great place to meet and chat with Goth Women. They boast of the friendliest, coolest, and most amazing members. They have the largest database and the fastest servers. For sure, they'll be able to find a match for you.

How cool are they?!
