"When enemies abound it is best to lay still and be quiet."
That's one thing I learned from observing these newly-hatched chicks. One moment they were calling out loudly for their mom to bring them food, but the moment they saw me, in a split second they remained still and quiet. That's how I was able to take this shot.
More pictures of these lovely birds after the jump.
They must have been really hungry.
After being away for a month and a half, this is what greeted me when I got back home - newly hatched chicks not high up on a tree but on eye level.
In just a few days, it began to develop feathers.
One rainy morning the mom had to keep them company. It even made a roof made out of dried leaves over the nest. It was raining everyday here in Davao during that time.
I had to leave for the weekend to visit Dumaguete, when I got back, they were ready to fly! Luckily I still caught the second chick just before it was going to take that leap of faith. Mom was just a meter away patiently waiting while egging on her baby to finally fly.
If you noticed, there's an addition to the roof which is made of plastic. I suspect the hand of our househelp. They love these birds. They watch over them everyday as well.
