I can't find badminton or tennis coverage from our local cable operator! It's very disappointing. I hope they cover the semifinals and finals matches.
Update for Day 3:
Ladies Singles:
Denmark's ace who has been showing impressive form this year, Tine Rasmussen, was beaten today by Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti 21-18 19-21 14-21. Impressive start from the young Indonesian, proving Indonesian players' toughness once again when it comes to the major events.
Top seeds Xie Xingfang and Zhang Ning beat their respective opponents comfortably to advance to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal, you might remember her from winning the Philippine Open a couple of years back, upset no. 6 seed Wang Chen of Hong Kong to advance to the quarterfinals.
Men's Singles:
Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Peter Gade, Bao Chunlai all advance to the next round without much problem. Taufik Hidayat, defending Olympic Champion, however, loses in two straight sets, 21-19 21-16 to Malaysia's Wong Choong Hann. The defending champion considerably not in tip top shape as he suffered from Dengue fever just a few weeks back. I wish Indonesia sent Simon Santoso instead!
Women's Doubles:
Top seeds and defending champions Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen of China suffers a loss at the hands of unseeded Japanese shuttlers Maeda Miyuki and Setsuna Satoko.
Mixed Doubles:
Round of 16 (1st round) starts tomorrow in blazing fashion, featuring a rematch between Athens Olympics finalists Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson and two time champion Gao Ling with new partner Zheng Bo! (I wanna see this match! Please somebody air it online or over cable TV!)
