It's not uncommon to hear people say things like "It's better for me to suffer rather than (name of person)" or "I'm doing this for your own good." In some ways people are inclined to be dark knights, wanting to take the blame and/or suffering just so someone can be spared from it. However, are those someones really spared from the sufferings OR are we just creating new forms of pain manifested not only by those we try to protect but by ourselves as well?
The latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, has been closing in on Titanic, making its way to the top of the list of highest grossing box-office hits of all time. I haven't gone to the cinemas in a while. Most movies, especially the big ones, are now made available locally through pirated copies of DVDs or even simpler, through online download sites. All these are made available in just a few weeks time after the movie hits the cinemas. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating these practices. Personally, I still prefer watching movies at the big screen. Well, a thought just came over me. Titanic was shown back in 1997 when all these technology weren't available yet. If The Dark Knight was shown in the same period, I bet it would have surpassed Titanic by now. Technology definitely has its drawbacks. (The Titanic has the advantage though when it comes to inflation rate. (^O^)v)
So what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Well, I guess Science would prove that there would be equilibrium. After all, forces of equal magnitude would cancel each other out, right? Anyway, that's not important, what's important is that there are forces greater than these two.
One of these forces that is greater than an immovable object or stronger than an unstoppable force is YOURSELF! Your will to continue being who you are. What happens when the immovable object decides to move and the unstoppable force stops pushing? They lose their essence and they become like every other force their is.
Did you answer yes to the question on being a dark knight? I'd say reevaluate your motives. It's more likely your just doing it to keep your identity, to keep your purpose, and to keep yourself from turning insane. You are doing it more for yourself than for anybody else. Why else did Alfred burn the envelope?

ReplyDeletehelping others is a real good thing, but i think it's not selfless, because somehow deep within you, you know you'd be happy after doing that good deed.

very true, like how you said it, there never really are pure intentions (although my friend RS would argue about this, stating Mother Teresa as an example) hehehe. But I guess, what really counts is for everyone to see pass those intentions and trust the good in people. ^^ like you said, both ends end up happy in the end. win-win situation naman. ^^
In some ways you can say that it's better to do something good than do nothing at all (opposite of trying to figure out what the lesser evil is hehehe) But really we just have to trust the good in everyone ... I like it better said this way. hihihi
