ITI Airport in El Nido Palawan
Filipino women dressed in traditional Filipino attire greet the passengers upon arrival and departure from the ITI Airport in El Nido.  The actual plane you'll take is the one on the right of the pic.  It's small and can only accommodate about 20 passengers.

No X-ray machine on the airport, be prepared to take out the contents of your bag for manual security check.  Guests of El Nido Resorts (http://www.elnidoresorts.com/) go through a different security check handled by the resorts themselves.  Snack and refreshments are available at the departure lounge for passengers.

From the airport, you'll take a boat ride to El Nido Resorts.  If you're heading towards El Nido Town, you'll need to take a 20 minute tricycle-ride that will cost about 200 - 250 pesos.  (Better to book a tricycle from your resort because the walk from the arrival area to the airport's gate is quite long.)

Booking a tricycle from the town to the airport should only cost 200 pesos.  Just make sure your tricycle driver has the necessary papers (a driver's license will probably do) so he can enter the premises of the airport.

Depending on the weather, the flight can get rough and bumpy.  On a clear day however, even a child would enjoy the comfortable ride aboard the ITI plane.

Shuttle Van service from Puerto Princesa City to El Nido (Daily)

(There are daily flights from Cebu City and Manila to Puerto Princesa City with Philippine Airlines (http://www.philippineairlines.com) , Air Philippines (http://www.airphilexpress.com), and Cebu Pacific Airlines (http://www.cebupacificair.com))

Shuttle van services costs 600 - 700 pesos per passenger.  The van is usually jam-packed with 12-14 passengers per vehicle.  Travel time is about 5-6 hours with stops along the way.  For a more comfortable ride, you can also opt to privately hire the vans for around 6000-7000 pesos.

Sunset view on the way to El Nido
The road  from Puerto Princesa to El Nido is already 80% cemented.  The project is scheduled to be completed by June or July 2012.  The ride is fairly smooth but the roads are long and winding (zigzagging) ... perfect time to sing The Long and Winding Road. (^o^)/

Midway, you'll stop at Fort Wally Food Stop for some snacks and refreshments.  If you're a bit picky with what to eat, I suggest you stop by Jollibee or McDonald's in Puerto Princesa instead and buy something for take away before riding the van.  You can also buy Cashew Nuts (Kasuy) here.  Cashew nuts is the main product of Palawan under the One Town One Product project of the government.

The ride is full of scenic views - farms, Water Buffalo (carabaos), traditional Filipino houses, coconuts, mountains, the sea - so try to stay awake so you can enjoy the view.

If you leave Puerto Princesa around 1pm.  You'll catch the sunset along the way.  In the picture below, the hill behind the coconut trees is actually one of the islands in El Nido already.

Another option is to take the bus.  However, I heard that buses are slower and they usually take around 9-10 hours.

El Nido is one of those destinations where it would be a bit hard to go to definitely, but the place, once you get there, will just blow your mind away.  It's truly one of the best places in the world!

Soon the adjacent province of TAYTAY (Palawan) will have its own airport.  From Taytay, it will only be an hour ride to beautiful El Nido, Philippines.

Some resort owners in El Nido actually prefer that the place be not made that accessible to tourists to delay development and preserve the beauty and peacefulness of the island experience.  Admittedly, the more common island hopping tours have already become a bit crowded with loads of tourist visiting the same attractions and islands.  For the ultimate El Nido experience, book a private boat tour and ask your boatman to take you to areas that are not part of the common tours.
