1, 2, 3 ... RON! (Ukokkei Ramen Ron)

"I finally found someone, that knocks me off my feet.
I finally found the one, that makes me feel complete."

Ramen that is.  But not just any kind of Ramen!  It's to-die-for Ramen!  Ramen that taste like it really came from Japan!  Finally found it at Ukokkei Ramen Ron.  Here are three reasons why you should try it.
Ukokkei Ramen Ron

1: It's very good!

Looking at the three Chinese characters that make up the name Ukokkei (烏骨鶏), individually, they actually stand for "Crow" "Bones" and "Chicken."  I had a hard time comprehending this because of the redundancy of having two kinds of birds in the name.  It only all made sense when on a certain blog post I read that the restaurant actually uses Black Chicken bones to prepare the soup.  That gave me some relief, as I don't think I would like to eat Crow at all. (^o^)/

2: It's very very good!

Tan Tan Men! 390 pesos

It takes time to prepare a broth as rich and flavorful as this!  Just from the look of it, you'd know that it would taste really good.  This is how ramen should be!  I hate ramen shops who use consomme powders as substitute.  It just doesn't taste nice.

I ordered the Tan-Tan Men.  Just try it!  It will blow your mind away.  It was so good that I couldn't wait for it to cool down a bit - burnt my mouth a little and left a numbing feel the next day.  It's a bit costly at 390 pesos but it's worth it.

Ukokkei Shoyu Chashu Ramen

Accompanying food scout ordered the Ukokkei Shoyu Chashu Ramen.  Got no complains from her as well.  She gobbled up the whole ramen a good 10 minutes before I finished! (^o^)/

3: It's very very very good!

The Ramen cooks and chefs even wear that signature white towel that they wrap over their heads.  Along with the stools facing the kitchen, these make up for a semi-authentic experience.  So eat your Ramen like the Japanese would - suck the noodles as loud as you can! And when you're done eating and you really enjoyed your meal, show your appreciation by shouting "GO-CHI-SOU-SA-MA!" out loud!

So what are you waiting for ... 1 , 2, 3 ... RON!
The master awaits (^o^)/
Master RON

Forget about ordering Gyouza.  It was really burnt.  Technically, this is what you would call a Yaki Gyouza.  Somehow, I miss the plain Gyouzas where you don't grill or fry one side.  Haven't tried the other dishes, but basing on how they prepared the Gyouza, this may not be the place for other Japanese favorites.  One thing for sure though is that it's definitely the right place for RAMEN!

Have an Attitude for Gratitude

I have this post it note on my desktop wallpaper.  It's from ThingsWeForget.Blogspot.Com.  It helps remind me everyday to be grateful for everything - from the small to the big stuff.  It really does help to have an attitude for gratitude.  For one, it's making me less irritable and the blessings just keep on coming.  Keeping the faith, here's another round for my Gratitude Wall.

Thanks you J.O. for inviting me to your home and FEEDING me!  Home-cooked Korean food with homemade chili sauce has never been this good!  Let's catch up again one of these days!  Congratulations to you and S!  Extend my gratitude to Gina and the rest of your wonderful home kitchen. ^^  Love N's kiss at the end. (^o-)v  She likes me after all.  Must have an eye for pogi hahaha (^o^)/

Thanks A.L. for introducing me to Tequilla with Lemon, Coffee, and Brown sugar.  Drinking Tequila will never be the same again.  Thanks to Egay of Fez for obliging  to our request.

A salute to the Buchi Gang + The Clan!  Cheers to our friendship!  See you around guys!

Going Green!

The only green thing in me is my mind!  So I realized it's about time to incorporate more green in me, specifically in my diet! And I'm not just talking about eating more vegetables but actually eating them RAW as well!  I do this by creating Green Smoothies

Surprisingly, the Green smoothies are sweet and very palatable.  I guess it helped that I added fruits and started out with green vegetables that are not bitter at all.  To make your green smoothie, just blend 60% green leafy vegetables with 40% fruit and a little water to help the blending process.  I started with a mixture of Petchay and Kangkong mixed with a little Papaya and Banana - copying the recipe of Monica from the FLOW Surf Yoga Samba weekend (FLOW Facebook page here).  I can't wait to move on to more hardcore stuff like Moringana (Malunggay), Wheatgrass, and Arugula!

For other Green Smoothie questions, check out this Green Smoothie Q&A page from RAW FAMILY.  From the site I learned that Chlorophyll, which is the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis in plants, has the closest molecular structure to human blood!  By that simple fact, it's suppose to be really good for us as well.  For this simple reason, a lot of health conscious individuals are already eating more greens.  I invite you to try one and join the club now!

Ocean Minded Flip Flops

Ocean Minded DURBO Flip-flops
I thought I'd contribute a little to help the environment.

On a recent Surfing Yoga Samba trip with FLOW, I received a gift certificate entitling me to a pair of Ocean Minded Flip Flops.  I've never heard of this brand so I wasn't really that excited to claim it but as soon as I got my pair of Ocean Minded Durbo flip flops, I loved them!  Not only because they were so comfortable to wear but most especially because of the company's concern for saving the environment.

The pair I got is world champion surfer Bede Durbidge's signature sandal.  It is called the Durbo after his nickname.  The strap is made from PU Nubuck.  It features a nylon toe post made from recycled plastic bottles.  And the footbed and outsole are made from recycled Croslite material.  In short, it's made mostly out of recycled materials!

For every pair that you get, a portion of your purchase price is also donated to the Surfrider Foundation.  It is a non-profit grassroots organization that is dedicated to the protection of the world's oceans, beaches, and waves through conservation, activism, research and education.

Here's a simple message from Gary Ward, President and Founder of Ocean Minded:

BE OCEAN MINDED.
That simple idea is the basis for our company.  We make top quality sandals with unbeatable comfort, while utilizing natural and sustainable materials whenever possible.  We are based in San Clemente, California and out crew strives to protect the Earth's most precious resources, the oceans, lakes, and streams.  Ocean Minded encourages you to pick up 10 pieces of trash the next time you head out to your favorite place, whether it be the beach, lake, or mountains.  That place will then be much nicer for the next person who comes to use it.

So the next time you are looking for a pair of flip-flops, consider getting a pair of Ocean Minded sandals and help the environment in the process.  These are available in Rudy Project outlets.

Thank you to FLOW and Rudy Project for my pair of Ocean Minded flip-flops!

ALIVE!

GRAB IT WHILE IT LASTS

When creativity strikes, you have to grab it and act on it right away.  The more you prolong and delay, the less likely it will be put to good use.  I have blog post concepts that are months old and I've already forgotten what I'm suppose to write in some of them.  And catching up is not an easy thing to do especially when one is ALIVE.  So what does it mean to be alive?

CLINKATION IN LA UNION

Just came from a weekend of bliss doing yoga, surfing, and dancing samba.  One of those trips I would classify as a CLINKATION.  It left a nasty hangover, one that still lingers even after more than a week already.  And like any other clinkation, what truly makes it one is not only the activities but more importantly the company you are in.  Long live The Clan!

Watch our epic adventure with FLOW in the video after the jump.

TO BE ALIVE AND KICKING

We wonder how long we can sustain the high from such experiences.  Only hours or even minutes after such events, reality can kick back in - there are deadlines to catch, families to take care of, responsibilities to fulfill.  That is just the bitter sweet reality of life.

What I would just like to say is that it shouldn't be a matter of sustaining it.  After all, one still lives!  The very essence of being ALIVE is having the opportunity to be able to create new ones, relive the old, and even surpass them.

I'M NOT MOVING

So if one day you wake up and you find missing it.  And your heart starts to wonder where it could be. Just look around the corner, to the place where we first met.

(Adapted from "The Man Who Can't be Moved" by The Script)
