Perfection Meets Perfection

In observance of the lenten season, I'm putting on hold the rest of the food scouting posts and leave you here with a more thought-provoking and hopefully inspiring post as well.

A NEVER ENDING LOVE STORY

Once there lived a Perfect Boy and a Perfect Girl, true soul mates destined to cross each other's paths and live a happy life together.  Will they ever find each other, fulfill their destinies, and live happily ever after?

I'll give you three reasons why this will never be:

  • No. 1: When Perfect Boy meets Perfect Girl, he will see the flaws in Perfect Girl and automatically discount her as his true soul mate.
  • No. 2: When Perfect Boy does find someone he's interested in, the girl turns out to be Perfect Girl.  And Perfect Girl will think that there's someone better out there waiting for her.
  • No. 3: If indeed Perfect Boy and Perfect Girl do manage to overcome the first two obstacles and find each other in a relationship, they will act as if there's no one better than them in this world.  Not only towards the rest of the world, but towards each other as well.  This will undoubtedly lead to their separation.

So will perfection ever meet perfection?

COMPLEMENTARY RATHER THAN PERFECTION

It's a hard fact to accept in life that nobody's perfect,  and thus when it comes to us, humans, perfection will never be able to live happily ever after with perfection.  The only time this can be possible is when one unconditionally relents to the whims of the other, a trait trying-hard-to-be perfect individuals will not be able to easily do.

So instead of trying to find someone perfect, find someone who complements you.  Someone who'll complete your world and together both of you can be perfect.

ACHIEVING PERFECTION

Now meeting those that would complement you is not a rare occurrence.  Clark Kent found it through the red cape in his Superman outfit.

Harry Potter had a perfect relationship with his Magical wand.

And SunJun will finally achieve perfection by owning a pair of Somnio Running Shoes!

If I get my hands on a pair of Somnio Mission Control Running Shoes, I'd use it for running and nothing more.  Things made with perfection in mind, to serve a certain purpose, must be respected and used accordingly.

RUNNING FOR LIFE

I love to run and I will use this pair of shoes to continue running.  Through running, not only do I keep myself physically fit but mentally strong as well.  When those initial pangs of pain start to manifest, I will myself to continue and push the limits of my body.
You also learn to raise your head up high when running.  Looking down will make you feel nauseous while raising your head will allow you to breath easier.  And that is how each and everyone of us must face life as well - with our heads held high.

SOMNIO RUNNING SHOES

Watch this video and let me know what you think.

Wasn't that amazing?  Go get your pair of Somnio shoes now!

Using Somnio's Gait Analysis Software, each pair of Somnio running shoes can be custom-made to perfectly fit each sole of your feet.  This can provide added comfort and will surely improve your performance.  All this comes with a hefty price tag though, a pair can cost around 7,000 pesos.  But let's sing along to Jessie J for once and say that "It's not about the money, money, money ... Forget about the price tag."  If I remember correctly, when Mr. Danny Orr, Somnio's Product Manager, was interviewed in Hardball at ANC, he said that for every pair of Somnio running shoes that you buy, Somnio Philippines will send a Filipino child to school!  How great is that?! Now that's true value for your money regardless whether you eventually use the shoes or not. hehehe (^o^)v  And that is what makes this pair of shoes ... ... ... ... truly perfect!

Low on budget? No problem! Try your luck by joining Unbox.ph's Somnio Running Shoes Blogger Contest and you might just win yourself a pair of SOMNIO RUNNING SHOES!  While you're at it, join Unbox.ph at Facebook if you want to keep yourself updated with contests and giveaways like this.

So will SunJun ever get to meet the one that will complement him to perfection? (Abangan ang susunod na kabanata ...) (^o^)/

Update:
Oh well ... I didn't win. I found some good deals on Amazon.com though. Check these out.

Food Scouts: Wingman Grill (Makati, Philippines)

WINGMAN GRILL Restaurant Review
Makati City, Philippines

Growing up, I just loved chicken wings!  It's the ultimate comfort food for me.  So the food scouts just had to try out Wingman Grill.

As you can see, the place isn't really made for fine dining.  It's more of a hangout place to drink beer and enjoy comfort food.  With the bright light of lunch hour, you can clearly see how unkempt the place is.    It can still definitely be improved.  It doesn't have to look chic and posh, even just a fast food style of cleanliness will do.  Particularly, they have to do something about the concrete floor.   Well, we didn't come here to enjoy the ambiance anyway, we came for the food!  On to the good stuff ....

The star of the place would have to be its chicken wings!  We ordered half a dozen GARLIC PARMESAN Chicken Wings.  It came with carrot sticks and a standard ranch dressing.  It was worth every peso (180 Php) we spent.  I actually prefer this to Buffalo Chicken Wings.  The wet Buffalo sauce can sometimes get in the way of enjoying a good chicken wing.  I like my chicken wings dry. (^o^)/

CORN PUPPIES

Their version of American-style corn dogs.  Served bite-sized, hence the term "puppies."

Accompanying food scout enjoys a good corn dog and she wasn't disappointed.  Outer layer provided a little crisp in every bite while the star of the meal, the hotdog, was delicious.  I personally liked the honey mustard dip that came with it.  Also worth 180 pesos.  At 6 pieces per order, this can be quite filling.  Don't forget to save some space for the burgers!

HOME RUN SLIDERS

Three mini-burgers of your choice!  A great way to sample Wingman's burger selection.  A superb treat for food trippers.  It also comes with a serving of giant onion rings!  Simply delicious at 230 pesos.

We got the following 3 burger flavors:

THE CLASSIC CHEESEBURGER

"Ketchup, mustard, mayo, topped with a slice of American cheese and kosher dill pickle slices."

A truly classic American taste with the dominating taste of mustard!  Great burger patty that's light and moist.

THE WINGMAN BURGER

We just had to try their signature burger - burger topped with Buffalo sauce and rich Blue cheese!  This was a little bit sour for our taste but still a good foodie experience.  It's a very acquired taste considering that it has Blue Cheese in it.  The burger patty was not as moist and light as that of The CLASSIC CHEESEBURGER as you can clearly see from the photo on the left.

THE COWBOY BURGER

Burger slabbed with BACON, CARAMELIZED ONIONS, and HICKORY BARBEQUE SAUCE!

Three strikes and their out?! Far from it though, this third slider was a definite HOME RUN!  Accompanying food scout ran out of space so I had this all to myself!  The sweetness of the caramelized onion together with the rich flavor of Hickory barbeque sauce just goes so well together.  And the bacon ... oh, the bacon... needs no further explanation!  Like they say, "Everything is so much better with bacon."

And for dessert, try their best-seller the "Deep-fried Snickers Bar," described as "Hand battered Snickers bar,   fried golden brown with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream and Hershey's chocolate syrup."  It sounded so sinful and much more common than the Deep Fried Coca-Cola, so I went to order the latter.

"A decadent combination of funnel cake, whipped cream, and Coca Cola syrup, topped with a fresh cherry." (120 pesos)

The funnel cakes are like small "Pilipit" breads that are deep fried.  It offers a unique combination of tastes from the crispy and fried funnel cakes, the creamy cream, and the sweetness of the Coca-Cola syrup.  I would have preferred it served ice-cream cold.  It's really nothing special.  Don't go to this place to eat dessert.  Simple as that.

7274 Malugay Street, Makati City, Philippines

How to get there:
Coming from EDSA go to Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue (Buendia), turn right at Chino Roces Ave. (Pasong Tamo), turn left at Yakal St., make another left at  Mayapis St., and then a final left to Malugay Street.  It will be on your left side.  Malugay is a one-way street hence the necessity to go around the block.

Food Scouts: Trellis 'n Vines Restaurant Davao

Trellis 'n Vines Restaurant Review
Davao City

Trellis 'n Vines now has four branches (Matina, Casa Maria, Mabini St., F. Torres St.) in Davao City.  Business must be doing great if you can afford to branch out that much.  A friend who has tried the place said that they generally serve good food.  The only complain he had was that it took forever for their order to arrive.  This was at the Mabini branch.  Checking Trellis 'n Vines' facebook page, they actually apologized for the slow service at the Mabini branch.  They blamed it on the small kitchen at that branch.

With an approving nod form most friends, it was the Food Scouts turn to try out the place.

I went with friends to the newly opened branch in F. Torres.  It's beside Yahong Restaurant, the same compound with Coffee Cat Coffee Shop and Nonki Japanese Restaurant.

Despite being a new branch, the place doesn't actually look new.

We ordered the Chicken Biryana, Baby Back Ribs, and Pan-fried Bangus (Milk fish).  These were the best-sellers according to the waiter that served us.

CHICKEN BIRYANI

All the food scouts loved the chicken biryani.  It was well seasoned with just the right balance of curry flavor.  The food scouts chose this as the best dish among the 3.

They didn't use Basmati rice though.  They used a sticky variety (probably our very own local rice) which caused some of the grains to stick together.  This can be a major turn off for real Biryani eaters.

The paratha or more like a cracker really was a bit salty.  Surprisingly though, it had a lot of Indian spices on it which can be hard to find here in Davao.  It appears that this may have been home-made and not store-bought - a definite plus!  Just go lightly on the salt next time.  And I would have loved for the chicken to be in bite-size pieces and preferably boneless.  (^o^)/

PAN-FRIED BANGUS

The food scouts agreed that it was nothing extraordinary.  It was plain, something you can cook by yourself at home.

I loved this the most as I'm not a fish eater and yet I was able to eat a lot of it.  But yes, it wasn't anything special.

BABY BACK RIBS

The general consensus was that we've tasted better.

The problem with serving Baby Back Ribs is in making sure that the meat is super tender.  I would rate this one as tender but not tender enough.  The sauce was also lighter than most BBQ sauces.  Regardless, it was still delicious.

It took a whole hour before our orders were served!  I guess this branch also has a small kitchen.  Or it might just have been due to the bigger group that came ahead of us.  Management should figure out a way to solve this problem.

One friend also shared her stories of ordering food at their Matina branch only to be told by the servers that it would take an hour before their food would be served because they still had to go to the wet market!  This almost sounded very unreal - a definite blooper for people in the food industry.

To save time, try calling and ordering ahead of time.  If this doesn't work, I don't know what would.  And I guess it would only be days before this restaurant also runs out of business as well. tsk tsk tsk ...

It's not about the Money

Time for some music videos. ^^  The first time I heard of this song was when one friend wrote part of the lyrics on her status page and then eventually tagging me in the video as well.  It didn't capture my attention back then.  Today though, somehow, I felt like posting it here.  Enjoy Jessie J's Price Tag featuring B.O.B.

Price Tag Lyrics
by Jessie J featuring B.O.B

[Jessie J]

Seems like everybody’s got a price,

I wonder how they sleep at night.

When the tale comes first,

And the truth comes second,

Just stop, for a minute and

Smile

Why is everybody so serious!

Acting so damn mysterious

You got your shades on your eyes

And your heels so high

That you can’t even have a good time.

[Pre-chorus]

Everybody look to their left (yeah)

Everybody look to their right (ha)

Can you feel that (yeah)

Well pay them with love tonight…

[Chorus]

It’s not about the money, money, money

We don’t need your money, money, money

We just wanna make the world dance,

Forget about the Price Tag

Ain’t about the (ha) Ka-Ching Ka-Ching.

Ain’t about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling

Wanna make the world dance,

Forget about the Price Tag.

[Jessie J]

We need to take it back in time,

When music made us all UNITE!

And it wasn’t low blows and video Hoes,

Am I the only one gettin… tired?

Why is everybody so obsessed?

Money can’t buy us happiness

Can we all slow down and enjoy right now

Guarantee we’ll be feelin

All right.

[Pre-chorus]

Everybody look to their left (yeah)

Everybody look to their right (ha)

Can you feel that (yeah)

Well pay them with love tonight…

[Chorus]

[B.o.B]

Yeah yeah

well, keep the price tag

and take the cash back

just give me six streams and a half stack

and you can keep the cars

leave me the garage

and all I..

yes all I need are keys and garage

and guess what, in 30 seconds I’m leaving to Mars

yes we leaving across these undefeatable odds

its like this man, you can’t put a price on life

we do this for the love so we fight and sacrifice everynight

so we ain’t gon stumble and fall never

waiting to see, a sign of defeat uh uh

so we gon keep everyone moving there feet

so bring back the beat and everybody sing

it’s not about…

[Chorus x2]

[Jessie J - Outro]

Yeah yeah

oo-oooh

forget about the price tag

Also prepared something a little extra for today!  Maroon 5's Never Gonna Leave this Bed .  Watch out for THE VOYAGE, Kenneth Cobonpue's signature bed.  In his interview in Bottomline, he said something like not yet getting there because not that many Filipinos still know about him.  So I'm just trying to help him out, I guess.  The bed is a definite work of art.  The bed is viewed best outdoors where the sun can shine through its structure and produce interesting patterns.  (^o^)/ Congrats Kenneth!
